CAAV Route to Rural
If you’d asked me a few years ago where my degree would take me, I probably wouldn’t have been able to tell you exactly where I’d end up!
I studied Equine Science and Business Management at university and have since started my career in rural surveying at Sworders.
As much as I love horses, I wanted to keep them as a hobby and explore a career in the wider rural sector.
I’ve grown up in the Yorkshire Dales and have always had a passion for rural life. Coming from a family working in agriculture, I’ve always had an appreciation for the countryside and the people who work in it.
I love the people, problem-solving and variety that come with the job. From rent reviews to strategic land development, no two days are the same.
I’m really grateful to have found my place at Sworders and, having completed my first year in rural surveying, I’m continuing to develop my knowledge and experience while studying for my Master’s at Harper Adams University alongside work and working towards my APC.
So, for this year’s Route to Rural, my advice to anyone thinking about their future is to keep an open mind. You don’t necessarily need to have studied a traditional surveying degree or know exactly what you want to do from the start. There are so many different routes into the rural industry, and you never know where they might lead.
