New Changes to Permitted Development Rights

In a bid to boost the delivery of housing and revitalise town centres, new legislation was recently announced by the Government with regards to the General Permitted Development Order. The new rules consist of introducing new Permitted Development rights for two storey extensions to existing dwellings and the demolition of existing commercial buildings for replacement with residential development. In short, this will allow home owners to add an additional two floors to their homes without planning permission, and developers will be able to demolish redundant commercial premises to be replaced with residential units. These changes are set to come into force during August of this year.
